A day on the road with us, stop by stop.
This is a real route we drive: out of Voi before sunrise, into Tsavo East, up Mudanda Rock, and on to the coast when the parks are done. The orange line fills in as you pass each stop.
Stop 1: Tsavo East, Voi gate
The home of thousands of elephants. We enter at Voi, fifteen minutes from our Voi apartments, before the heat comes up.
Stop 2: The red elephants of Tsavo
They dust themselves with the red oxide soil until they match the ground. You watch it happen from the roof hatch.
Stop 3: Mudanda Rock
A stratified rock that catches the rain for the elephants and everything else that drinks here. We climb it at the end of the day.
Stop 4: Comfortable transport
Our own vans with pop-up roofs: a clear view from the top, and a driver who knows where the animals were yesterday.
Stop 5: Nyali Beach, Mombasa
When the parks are done, the coast. Warm water, a reef walk at low tide, and dinner on the sand.
Stop 6: Bonfire nights
Celebrate your nights in a serene place with an outdoor controlled bonfire. Stories, music and the sky.
Sleep by the gate, or by the sea.
